Your first physiotherapy assessment

What to discuss, what to wear and how the first assessment helps shape your care plan.

A treatment room at Max Physiotherapy

Guide

Your first physiotherapy appointment is a chance to explain what has changed and what you want to be able to do. Think about the activities that are difficult, when you first noticed the concern and the questions you want answered. Share relevant medical information directly with your practitioner.

Max Physiotherapy describes an initial assessment that combines a review of your history with a physical examination. The physiotherapist looks at movement and the areas relevant to your concern, then uses those findings to discuss an individual plan. Ask them to explain the assessment and how the proposed next steps relate to your goals.

The clinic recommends loose, comfortable clothing that lets you move freely. Contact reception before the visit if you are unsure what to wear or whether to bring paperwork related to a referral or insurance claim.

Education and exercise are part of the clinic’s physiotherapy approach. If your practitioner suggests activities between visits, ask them to demonstrate what they mean and explain how progress will be reviewed. The assessment, rather than a website description, determines the appropriate plan for you.

Before travelling, confirm the appointment time, location, fee and any insurance arrangements with reception. You can call (403) 453-5000 for practical questions.
